What to Expect with Freight Shipping

Free Curbside Freight Delivery Is Included In Your Purchase From Hudson Valley Fire Pits.

Hudson Valley Fire Pits can only be shipped via freight because ground carriers such as DHL, FedEx or UPS restrict both the size and weight of items they accept. Freight carriers are trained to handle oversized items safely.

Freight carriers operate a bit differently than standard ground carriers so here’s what you need to know to avoid frustrations.

What Is Included With Free Delivery
  • Standard freight shipments are delivered curbside.
  • The driver will unload the pallet with a lift gate at the curb but is not authorized to move it further.
What Is Not Included With Free Delivery
  • If you require delivery services beyond curbside delivery please reach out before placing your order!
  • White glove service must be arranged before placing your order.
  • White glove delivery is subject to availability and the additional cost must be added to your order.
  • Paying a neighborhood handy-person to move the fire pit is almost always much cheaper than upgrading to white glove delivery.
  • If you elect to move the fire pit yourself, see section below on how to safely move a fire pit to the desired location.
  • Any shipment that requires a ferry or boat for delivery is subject to an addition fee.
  • Shipping is not available to P. O. Boxes or Military APOs.
  • Expedited delivery is effectively not an option.
Changes To Curbside Freight Address

Addresses can be updated at no additional cost if you contact me before the order has shipped.
Once the order has shipped, the freight carrier will charge an additional fee to update the delivery address.

Plan Ahead! Freight Is Slow Compared To Other Forms Of Delivery.

Standard transit time for freight is 5 days but it can also take up to 5 days to schedule a truck with a lift gate on either end. Most freight pick ups and deliveries are made with full size semi trucks that back up to loading docks— residential deliveries must use a box truck with a lift gate.

Freight Tracking Is Wonky.

When I schedule pickup for your order, I will email you a tracking number and an estimated delivery date to your local freight terminal. The tracking number doesn’t enter the carriers system until about 24 hours after it reaches their terminal. Most freight companies use partner carriers (regional companies who carry the load part of the way) and those regional carriers do not have the same computer system to update tracking on the fly. Yes, this is frustrating for everyone involved.

Delivery
  • The carrier will call you to make a delivery appointment when your Firebowl reaches the terminal nearest you.
  • They are not able to make the delivery without an appointment to insure that someone is on hand to sign for the shipment.
  • Only weekday delivery appointments are available.
  • Upon delivery, you will need to inspect and sign for the shipment.
  • PLEASE NOTE: Most Fire Pit designs have a separate base which is shipped on the pallet, under the bowl.
  • The customer is responsible for shipping both ways on orders that are returned. This includes orders marked undeliverable by the shipping carrier.
How To Safely Move The Fire Pit From The Curb
  • If you are moving the fire pit yourself, please take it off the pallet first! No reason to carry that extra 50 pounds.
  • The easiest way to move most fire pit designs is to roll them like a wheel, at a slight angle to counterbalance the weight.
  • It is actually easier for one person to roll a fire pit than two because there is less chance of miscommunication.
  • The easiest way to get the fire pit upright is to step on the edge of the bowl to tip it up.
  • Designs that do not roll easily (such as the King Isosceles) are easiest to move if two people carry it upside down. It’s far easier to grasp the edge of the bowl than to try to carry it upright!
  • Using a wheeled dolly is best, depending on the ground you have to cover.
  • If you misjudge or lose your grip or balance, let the fire pit fall and just step back till it stops moving! It will not get damaged if it falls but you could be injured if you try to catch it.
International Shipments
  • For a price quote on overseas shipping including deliveries to Alaska, Hawaii, or any U. S. territories outside of the Contiguous U. S., please email me with your full delivery address and the size, style and quantity of the firebowl you wish to purchase. I will get a shipping quote for you within 3-5 days and provide instructions for payment.
  • Freight carriers will not provide a quote without the full street address and a customer phone number.
  • Price quotes for freight shipping expire after 30 days.
  • I bill only for the artwork and shipping cost— taxes, customs brokers and any other import fees will be the responsibility of the customer.
  • In many countries there is no duty tax for fine art, but there may be other regional, state or local taxes.
International Shipping Disclaimer:
  • The customer is considered the importer of the purchased products and will be responsible for any customs tax, import duties, goods and services tax (GST), valued-added tax (VAT), or any similar customs-related charges.
  • Customs policies vary by country and I cannot make any guarantees as to whether or not shipments will be subject to customs-related fees. Please contact your local customs office for more information.
  • In addition to customs fees, customers may also incur other charges, such as administration or brokerage fees. These are handling charges incurred due to customs processing and clearance of your shipment.
