Customizing a Waves Sculptural Fire Pit to add two Phoenix

This commission came through Edgewood Orchard Galleries in Fish Creek, WI. They had a customer who loved the Waves Sculptural Fire Pit, but also really loved the phoenix on the Phoenix + Flames Sculptural Fire Pit.

They wondered if I could make a hybrid of the two designs. I wasn’t initially sure it would work well— I felt like the area where the base of the phoenix meets the trough of the wave might be a bit awkward looking. But after I chalked it out a few times, I found a way to make the curves graceful enough to make us all happy with the result. Sometimes an exercise like this can be really healthy as an artist and help you to look at your own work with new eyes.

Above is the finished Fire Pit in it’s new home by a Wisconsin lake. It looks like it fits right in among the trees. Below are a couple pictures I took before shipping.
