At Weber Grill Restaurant in St. Louis, MO, two Zen 37 inch Sculptural Firepits on tall pillars flank a statue of George Stephen, Sr., the inventor of one of the most iconic outdoor grills of all time. As an aficionado of grilling and Barbecue, I’m thrilled to have my fire pits displayed at at a venue whose name is synonymous with outdoor cooking. According the the restaurant’s website,
The Weber Grill Restaurant is the result of over 60 years of Classic Outdoor Grilling—from the people who invented the Weber Charcoal kettle grill. You‘ll taste the difference that decades of grilling expertise make. More than a steakhouse & BBQ, our chefs are the grilling experts for seafood and vegetable specials as well. Our secret: a commitment to using quality ingredients, innovative recipes, honed grilling technique, and Weber charcoal kettles.
Smithsonian Magazine has a great article on the invention and development of the Weber Kettle, introduced In 1952 as ‘George’s Barbecue Kettle’ and often affectionately referred to as ‘Sputnik” by it’s fans. Although Weber-Stephen Products was sold in 2010, the restaurants remain solely owned by the Stephen family.
Although the Zen Sculptural Firepit normally has an almost invisible two inch tall base, the restaurant designers opted to extend it much higher for this installation. The taller base more closely resembles a Weber Kettle.
